Australians will now be able to receive a Moderna or a Pfizer booster shot five months after their last vaccination after new evidence showing immunity to the Omicron variant waning six months after a second dose.

COVID-19 booster shots will be fast-tracked in Australia as health authorities warn immunity to the Omicron variant begins to wane six months after a second vaccination.New laboratory data and evaluation of booster rollouts overseas indicates immunity to omicron declines by six months after last doseThe federal government has announced people will now be able to receive a Moderna or a Pfizer booster shot five months after their second vaccination, rather than six.

"They felt that bringing it forward to five months was worth doing, particularly based on some data out of Israel that found that is a very good time." On Friday, premiers and chief ministers were advised that the Omicron variant does not appear to be causing more serious illness, although there is still more to be learned.Watch

I’d

It's been well known since July that 3rd shot would be needed due to waning immunity by 4 MONTHS after second jab, ie for Delta. Its time for honest, agenda free & scientific reporting & governance that tells people what they do and don't want to hear. Govt didn't order enough.

Zero idea and total lie. Please explain.

I assume that like any future subscription service, we just put in our credit card details on a website to ensure that we get our regular dose, but that when we decide to cancel our plan, we'll have to go through call center hell and then repeat calls asking us to renew

good. i don't care. but if they try to re-impose lockdowns again I'll be joining the rioters this time. Already done 1 year and got doouble vaxxed for this shit. no more lockdowns.

6 months? Studies have shown the vaccines are next to useless after 2 months- with Alpha and Delta.

This variant was discovered maybe two weeks ago and we've already sorted out six month immunity?

Not according to Dept of Health NSW. Won’t book booster until 6 months from last vaccination.

So two vaccines a year.....

Nice job and MiriamCorowa I’m loving how AUSLAN is being integrated into the 5pm news!

Someone needs to coordinate communication, SA Health clinic says not 5 months yet. PR jumped the gun?

Shame on ABC news, the WORST of all msm: not showing the thousands of people world wide protesting against the mandates/ dangers of vaccines. France 22 weeks in a row. Blood is on your hands ABC for destroying lives and livelihoods and that includes you who twitters these tweets.

Just stop ABC 😞

HEALTH FIRST and STAY SAFE.

Two months after the second jab would be fast tracked. Five months is not.

Slap it up, boosties!!!

🥳

CDC data revealed vaccines being no effective for this virus

We need 6 boosters now as Pfizer suggests, is this information being drip feed? How are you so behind.

No thanks! We'll take our chances

Governments don’t want to be left with piles of unused vaccines when the people realise they don’t need to get vaccinated anymore.

But Omicron was discovered less then 4 weeks ago 🧐

‘Everything points to Omicron being milder’: Positive signs from South Africa’s new hospital dataDoctors and medical experts suspect that the Omicron version really is causing milder COVID-19 than Delta, even if it seems to be spreading faster. In the 4th wave that South Africa is undergoing, I believe not all patients are tested for genome sequencing of the virus. Therefore we can not be 100% confident that all 17154 case found are the omicron. “Jassat said that even though the early signs are that Omicron cases are less severe, the volume of new COVID-19 cases may still overwhelm South Africa’s hospitals and result in a higher number of severe symptoms and deaths.” The risk of increased exponential transmission.
