Bear the dog searches scorched bushland for surviving koalas

Residents near the Moreton Island town of Bulwer and all of the island's campers ordered to evacuate to Tangalooma Island Resort, where 220 holidaymakers spent the night.A brief series of intense storms on Sunday did little to dampen the blazes, with no major rain on the horizon.

Last week, Bear scoured the charred Cooroibah forest on the Sunshine Coast, which was one of the worst-affected areas. International Fund for Animal Welfare wildlife campaigner Josey Sharrad said Bear and his handler, from the University of the Sunshine Coast, were sent in to find sick, injured and orphaned koalas."Now, more than ever, saving individual koalas is critical. With such an intense start to the bushfire"All the while, wildlife will continue to need to be rescued and treated, and might remain in care for some time. The road to recovery will be long.
