Sky News host Chris Kenny says the issues plaguing the BBC, such as it being “out of touch with mainstream concerns,” mirror similar issues facing Australia’s ABC.

The public British broadcaster is facing a proposal to scrap the compulsory licence fee which has funded it for decades, and instead replace it with an “opt-in subscription model”. A survey conducted last week in the UK found more than half of the respondents agreed with the abolition of the licensing fee, while 50 per cent believed it did not represent value for money.

Mr Kenny said there are plenty accusations of the BBC “losing touch with the mainstream as it obsesses with minority activism,” like its recent feature of a poem about the ‘struggles of getting a haircut as a non-binary person’. The same qualities which represent the main gripes with the BBC, such as focusing on “its own niche issues” and “lacking a diversity of ideas,” sound “terribly familiar” to the arguments against the ABC.

As the great Joe Strummer’s words said “London calling”(BBC WW2 call sign)”and some of it was true”. Both public funded “News”agencies need to get back to the 5W’s(who,what,where,when and why)instead of mockumentaries, infomercials, bad news, freaks and geeks

Sky news is poison ☠️ just like Fox News , nothing but lies propaganda and miss information. Australian people should completely ignore information and news that comes from Sky channel, simply don’t watch and ignore, don’t let them to 🧠 wash you.

Irony is indeed dead. Sky News trying to dunk on the ABC but self owning instead.

ClarkGreenaway I suspect that ABCaustralia wants to DRIVE public opinion, rather than report on it. A worry. auspol auspol2020 media abcnews

ToomeyWright Make the ABC a subscription service and let those who want to listen to and watch their programs, subscribe. The world has changed and there is no longer place for state-owned media.

Sky News is so mainstream it has an audience share of just 1.8 per cent.

No it’s MurdochSkyMedia that’s out of touch, and arrogant to boot!

With so few viewers, SKY news can at least console themselves that their tweets get seen.

What Chris Kenny is ignoring is the added factor of the British Class system.

Isn't there a paedophile that you guys need to defend? Surely some indigenous kid newscorpaus you can publish FakeNews about?

How would an out of touch band of ‘no audience nitwits’, know what out of touch is..? It’s like, a guy who lies down with dogs, thinks everyone else does too... 🙄 gaslighting ScottyfromMarketing auspol

More of my taxpayer dollars to the ABC please, and none to “sporting” clubs or to corrupt politicians taking public funds for their own gain. Thanks.

ChrisKenny, AndrewBolt Credlin are perfect examples why we should ban Murdoch press in Australia.

Oh the irony!

Needs Kardashian content lol

Wait till you hear about sky.

Proof it's genetic. Aunty and Granma have it.

Who cares?

The issues plaguing the BBC exactly mirror those facing the ABC. Both are under constant attack by Murdoch owned media competitors with corrupt governments supporting Murdoch ThisisNotJournalism

Bluey! Best kids show ever.

Who'd have thunk it Shitenews running a wankfest beatup against public funded broadcasters both home and abroad by none other than the right wing fluffer boy Chris Kenny. Absolute comedy you lot.

All government funded entities are left wing propaganda machines. The ABC has been that way for decades, it has only been in the last few years that they openly show their wokeness. They should be defunded & shutdown. Massive tax dollars would be better directed at health or Ed.

ABC are racists anti imperial .Saudi Arabia banned Aljazeera Qatar because of terrorist funding .SBS hosts ALJAZEERA news SBS is funded by tax payers ,so does that make Australia accessory to terrorism .

macsween_prue Is this outta touch?

It should be out of funding too. Why should our tax dolllars be used for left wing propaganda!

No they fkcg dont. What utter bullshit. We know your the one out of touch with reality, with the mood on the ground, so dont fkcg kid yourself sunshine.

Hey Chris How is bashing other news orgs working out for News Corp? Perhaps you might try doing some ACTUAL JOURNALISM

macsween_prue Chris Kenny is out of touch with not just concerns but reality. Tell him to stick to his audience of one

yes puppets have same masters & it ain't the taxpayers
