Ashleigh Barty has equalled her best finish at the Australian Open and moved just two wins away from ending a famous drought for the sporting nation - a 44-year wait to produce a local singles champion at Melbourne Park | AusOpen

Barty spoke to Channel Nine’s Jim Courier after the match...

Q: And a word on Jessica’s tournament? She played awfully well, beat the No.5 seed in the last round. She had a terrific tournament as well? I mean, I’ve grown as a person, as a player. I feel like I’m a more complete tennis player. I’ve obviously got a couple more years’ experience in my belt in handling different situations and being able to problem solve out on court. I think it’s a credit to my team. They’ve done so much work with me behind the scenes to make the best version of myself. I’m loving playing out here. It’s bringing a smile to my face, regardless of what is happening during the points.

Q: Well, for the first time in, I think, ever, the women’s semi-finals will take place both at night on Thursday night. That’s the new thing, we’re excited about it. You’re obviously going to be front and centre. Your opponent will be a familiar one, Madison Keys. Last time you played her was at Roland Garros, when you won your maiden major title. Thoughts on playing Madison?

In reaching the semi-finals with a tough match-up against Madison Keys next on the cards, Queenslander Barty is appearing better by the day and more threatening with every beaten opponent left in her wake.
