The 'value' of nurses has been forgotten in the aged care debate according to Assistant Secretary of the Nurses Professional Association of Queensland Jack McGuire. More:

The "value" of nurses has been forgotten in the aged care debate according to Assistant Secretary of the Nurses Professional Association of Queensland Jack McGuire. Mr McGuire spoke with Sky News host Chris Smith of the "revolutionary" solution to arise out of the Netherlands, which could be implemented to tackle the issue of aged care in Australia.

The scheme promotes 'home help,' as opposed to care in aged care facilities. "People seem to have [forgotten]... the value of a nurse, we send these people to university for four years," Mr McGuire said. "We've ended up with a system now where most care is given by people who do a TAFE course for three months".

Common sense I think.

chrissmithonair Seems to me that the best Nursing and Hospital care is reserved for our children so why don’t we have combined facilities with the Aged and Children so that standards improve for the Aged? No poor care would go unnoticed and be constantly called out and the Aged could interact.

Most aged care places don’t even have nurses working there in Australia anymore
