Australia's ranking on the world stage is 'poor' when it comes to quality of life, safety from the state and empowerment of people.

Australia's ranking on the world stage is said to be “poor” when it comes to quality of life, safety from the state and empowerment of its people., a tracker comparing the human rights performance of 33 countries worldwide.

"It certainly could do considerably better, I mean a score of 80.5, we would rate as…it's basically poor,” Dr Randolph told SBS News. “This is a group that has been demonised in our politics for decades now, when really what we need is a compassionate solution to people coming here seeking safety."More than half of the experts also identified the high risk of arbitrary arrest and torture faced by First Nations people.

“There is a real political mentality that we are people that need to be fixed, and that we need to have decisions made for us. Our rights to self-determination are not fully embraced,” she said. “And the current movement, I see it as a positive development in that it's broadening awareness of these problems that have been around for a really long time."Researchers also highlighted the importance of human rights during the coronavirus crisis.

What rights? Were nothing but a dobbing bunch of losers that have nothing else to do other than being puppets. Point the fingers and blame each other. That’s what were great at thanks to our leadership

First nations should be & must receive the same quality of life as other Australian citizens no debate. Refugees/Asylum seekers should definitely get medical & necessities. Unless processed I don't think you can just release them processing must be sped up in/out not yrs lockd up

Australia is the best country in the world by a mile those who don’t think so should move to where its better

MadFckingWitch here here

And poor internet speed too

MadFckingWitch Is there anything at all that Australia is succeeding at lately?

I'm guessing the UN is the judge? 🤦‍♂️😂

25 years of Conservative government has hollowed out this country's soul...

What qualifies the rankers and who asked them to rank Australia and who cares anyway?

FakeNews

Well there’s always North Korea

Sucks to live in Aussie-land

Rubbish.

I’m really not surprised. Our treatment of indigenous Australians, refugees, the homeless children in care is abysmal which is why we do not deserve a seat on the Human Rights Council. We have to clean up in our own backyard first. We’re “the lucky country” for fewer and fewer.

Who publishes this stuff for SBS? it's time to DEFUND SBS.

As long as we have our Beer and Footy, she'll be right mate.

Every quality of life statistics i see Australian capitol's are ranked quite high and well, in top 20s... Had this dropped in a few months?

florezcata So why are so many trying to come here ?

COMPARE TEH PAIR

Sure. Whatever you say SBS.

Who the hell does these “reports”?

Oh another academic doing a ‘study’ to tell us how poor we are and gets picked up by SBS who apparently couldn’t find anything more interesting to report on. Maybe that bod could do a ‘study’ on SBS reporting!!😤

No surprise that Australia is near the bottom of the ladder when it comes to human rights. This LNP government and its predecessors have all the compassion and warmth of a taipan.

Ridiculos!

rjstrikers No Shock Herr! !🙄😑Has it happened within the Last 7 years of Conservative Rule

This is a pretty vague report. Do indigenous people not have access to housing and education? Or is it the refugees? Or the asylum seekers? Or do they combine all and then come up with a total?

This is huge! Clearly, this has to be an astounding embarrassment for Australia. It can’t be ignored.....

On a brighter note, no flying spiders. SilverLinings

Well, in that case sbsnews .. i suggest you should leave.. oh, one other thing.. don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.

Mass immigration has divided and ruined Australia.

LOL, I guess here can share the same feeling that when China saw the “human right report” from western world.

In other words, a bunch of left idiots

Ha ha ha... Says fucking who? What absolute flog dribbled this shit.

Well, with horrendous practices such as legalised abortions, and butt sex marriage, what do you expect? 🤷‍♂️

Thats what voters voted.

But ranks number 2 in the world for mean wealth per adult. Equality/10.

I hope you paid the royalties do use that flag ?

People don't realise how good they have it here. Great country Australia. 🇦🇺

How about reporting on this shocking story happening under your nose. Australian town 'Remote community' gripped by paedophile epidemic with '90% of school-age children sexually abused' Do all BLM? MeToo thedrum

alleged refugees and asylum seekers get a better deal than unemployed people or pensioners which are australian citizens, stop giving these people hand outs and give them the basics accomodation food and necessary medical attention - stop giving them legal aid welfare etc .

SBS going for it again ...how many millions do the Aboriginal people receive off Fedral Government...so don't tell me we are third world..it's totally up to them ...first tell them to stop drinking ..SBS just useless media.

What a load of rubbish. Australia is the lucky country. We have an abundance of food and once COVID under control, jobs. Life is what you make of it and if you can’t see that nothing will make you happy.

What a biased assumption Of course the human rights advocates will be all over this vindicating themselves , example the refugees need to actually be refugees not queue jumpers which they are most of the time , and really the indigenous issue again. Move along its old FAKE NEWS

SBS = Seriously Bull Shit

Bullshit

'he findings come from the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), a tracker comparing the human rights performance of 33 countries worldwide.' yeah which 33? Talk about selection bias....

And who is ranking Australia with this nonsense? Between SBS and ABC I’m not sure what one degrades Australia more

This is the biggest garbage I have ever heard! 😄

Abos are pandered to relentlessly with every opportunity available, far better treated than other Australian citizens

What a load of rubbish. How many countries give absolute zero government money and help. It's definitely way more than those that do.

In the meantime SBS, how about covering real news, such as this deplorable & scandalous story covered in a U.K. publication about child abuse on an enormous scale in remote W.A. town.

Compared to where China? Saudi Arabia? Congo? Yemen? US? Really?

Most self inflicted. We whites need to listen more to their needs not push our white man European style law or government down their throat. We invaded and destroyed them and their environment in 200 years and we need to pay dearly for that.

Live: NSW Now: Prices soared as the coronavirus pandemic hit, consumer group findsMORNING BRIEFING: Choice found retailers preyed on consumer fears they would lose access to food by increasing the price of white goods and essential items as the coronavirus crisis hit Australia. Who’d have thought? online retailers were milking those on Jobseeker n Jobkeeper to make fat profit So ASX listed companies reported 12% more sales This is disgraceful to see what was felt now borne out that prices were indeed higher. Funny too that there were no sales in supermarkets or many other shops. Except these companies make so much profit, year after year. So I won’t spend.

Negotiations on energy policy 'blown up by right-wing dinosaurs' | Sky News AustraliaLabor MP Peter Khalil is calling on the Coalition to “actually engage” with Anthony Albanese in his attempt to reach bipartisanship on energy policy. \n\nThe Opposition leader penned a letter to Prime Minister Scott Morrison setting out a plan to end the decade-long energy wars. \n\nIn the letter, Mr Albanese said he would back carbon capture and storage technologies for clean coal projects. \n\nMr Khalil told Sky News the Coalition needed to “take politics out of this so that we can actually start investing in renewable energy, create jobs and move forward to do what’s best for the national interest”. \n\nHe said each time the Labor Party tried to reach agreement, negotiations were “blown up by the right-wingers and the dinosaurs who are climate change denialists in their own Coalition”. \n\n“There’s got to be a willingness by Scott Morrison and his party and the Nationals to actually engage on this, not to run anti-renewables scare campaigns and play politics with this,” he said. \n\n“It’s too important to play politics with, we need to get this right and I back Albo all the way.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia PeterKhalilMP AlboMP Witch one of you two bend over your desk for the other one to play hide the sausage?
