Universities overseas are chartering flights for thousands of Chinese international students to return to their studies, leaving Australia racing to keep up with its top competitors in its third biggest export industry | LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw

Universities overseas are chartering flights for thousands of Chinese international students to return to their studies, leaving Australia racing to keep up with its top competitors, Britain, the US and Canada, in its third biggest export industry.

More than 20 universities in the UK have joined together to charter flights for Chinese students to Britain. The Ministry on Thursday told Chinese state media it would allow universities to accept students studying abroad to study in domestic universities "on the premise of ensuring education equity" while recognising foreign qualifications for partially completed degrees at local institutions.

"If we don't act soon then what started as a trickle of international students from key markets going to other countries will gather major momentum," Mr Honeywood.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw Chinese students flying into huge 2nd waves in those countries. Mmmm wonder if that may change the equation, especially if Australia is shortly able to offer a quarantine backed 'safe haven' for long term study.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw This is the quality of reporting by the SMH? This is garbage. It's a non story. Just think it through. Please lift your game.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw We don't want them back. The education sector's quality has diminished because they care more about the $$$. It's sad to see.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw Now watch University and Tafe fees go up for Aussie students without the international students to who pay more to subsidise their discount fees.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw MORRISON A RACIST DENIAL MERCHANT.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw The Chinese are subsidising Aussie education. Did U think our government was going to pay for all of it with money left over from private school funding?

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw We shouldn't be caring too much about the bloody Chinese....they can eat grass for all i care....how about putting Aussie thru with scholarships instead of wasting it on foreign aide to countries like Indonesia and such who have no interest in Australia or Australians

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw Glad to see there flights when money is at stake but not to help Australians to return home... Don't blame the unis but geez if they can charter planes then surely govt can charter planes instead of families having to empty their savings to return home

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw Well if Scomo hadn't pissed China off........

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw The US, UK, Europe & even Canada face huge virus second waves, Australia can hopefully step in shortly offering a quarantined haven to all overseas students for longterm study. Our Universities need to be ready to run academic years that better fit global pandemic parameters.

LisaVisentin ErykBagshaw Perhaps one thing that may come out if this is Australian universities selling quality experience not quantity. Turning it into a commodity does not good for the university or the international students.

The controversial Brexit bill aimed to stop EU from 'breaking up the UK' | Sky News AustraliaFormer foreign affairs minister Alexander Downer says the United Kingdom’s controversial new Brexit bill is part of their negotiating strategy with the EU to prevent the EU from establishing a trade border between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.\n\nHis comments come after news the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduced a new Brexit bill which gives the government power to override parts of the UK’s Brexit agreement and break international law. \n\n“This is part of the negotiating strategy where the UK is making it clear if the negotiations fail, the simple point is that they’re not going to allow the EU to establish a trade border between great Britain, that’s England Scotland and Wales, on the one hand, and Northern Ireland on the other,” Mr Downer told Sky News host Peta Credlin. \n\n“Because the British government understandably argued that the EU would be breaking up the UK if they did that.\n\n“So they’ve introduced this legislation, it’s not going to happen if they reach an agreement with the EU, the legislation will be null and void.\n\n“But if they fail to reach an agreement that just want to guarantee the EU in no way can impose barriers between the mainland of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, that’s what it’s all about.”\n\nMr Downer said the new legislation was a breach of law because it changed withdrawal agreements, however, the British argument was that the EU had reinterpreted the withdrawal agreement in a way inimical to the unity of the United Kingdom.\n Alexander Downer is an idiot. Why you would want to quote tweet him beggars belief. What a total cluster Brexit is. Why is Alexander Downer 'the spy' commenting on anything to do with politics?
