Sydney Sixers captain Ellyse Perry says there is no better way to kick off a new frontier of the Women's Big Bash league than a grudge match against cross-city rivals the Thunder.

Sydney Sixers captain Ellyse Perry says there is no better way to kick off a new frontier of the Women's Big Bash league than a grudge match against cross-city rivals the Thunder.

The Australian international hopes fans will embrace the stand-alone fixtures with more games in prime time and expects a big crowd when the Sixers take on the Sydney Thunder on Friday evening at North Sydney Oval."The great opportunity is we are playing tomorrow night at prime time at an amazing oval against our biggest rivals," Perry said.

"I was speaking to Emma Hughes one of our new signings about her HSC geography so that took me back a few years," Perry said. For the Sydney Thunder, it has been an off-season of change with the departures of Nicola Carey, Maisy Gibson but the team have signed Nida Dar, who will become the first Pakistani to play in the WBBL, and South African Shabnim Ismail, one of the fastest bowlers in the game.

"There was a bit of uncertainty maybe with our team, a few people left, a few changes but I think we are really happy with how the team has come together," Priest said.

AFP forced marriage crackdown gives 'opportunity' to get help | Sky News AustraliaAustralian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Debbie Platz says the AFP’s crackdown on forced marriages through a new airport campaign should give young people “the opportunity” to get help. \n\nThe AFP has implemented a trial at Sydney Airport, which involves the placement of posters in bathrooms to reach potential victims before they are shipped overseas and forced into marriage.\n\n“It gives them an opportunity not just to see the advertisement, it directs them to websites where they can go for help,” Ms Platz said.\n\n“What we’ve found in the past is just that small piece of information can be really important when they find themselves overseas.” \n Whishful thinking. AFP generally has very high intentions but often is constrained by some combination of politics, funding, idealism, inability to convince someone in the hierarchy (& the community) of an actual effective plan. Hence hearts & minds campaigns. New airport campaign? So people who are most effected by forced marriages are located at airports predominantly? Why airports and not anywhere else? So much being said without it actually being said

Do the maths: Women winners dominate at the Prime Ministers science awardsProfessor Cheryl Praeger received the $250,000 prize at Parliament House alongside other award winners in research, innovation and teaching. Congratulations to the winners, although not sure why the ABC makes the winners gender the main talking point? I've worked with great engineers and scientists both men and women. Their gender had nothing to do with their competence PM wanted women getting most of the awards; remember what happened with the CEO position of the ABC? I've never met a mathematician who needed to use their genitals to count. 🙄

On the cusp of a new start, a stolen car cut Shahid's life shortThe 36-year-old's family were preparing to embark on a new chapter in their lives, moving closer to friends and community. Now they're preparing the husband and father's funeral. The animal who did this should get solitary confinement for life. I feel that this article wouldn't have been written if the victim wasn't, how can I say this, ..politically powerful.
