"I've lost the bloody sheds, house - lost everything," a distressed Rappville resident, Danny Smith, told Nine News.Advertisement

She told the ABC she sent a tweet to the RFS explaining that her father was in his shed and would probably not survive. He had thought the shed would be safe during the blaze because "it's steel, and steel doesn't burn", she said. Four emergency warnings were issued for fires on Tuesday, but by late on Tuesday night two were left ravaging the area – at Busbys Flat and Drake. Early on Wednesday morning, those two fires were also downgraded to "watch and act" status, but were still deemed to be out-of-control.

"Until we can safely get our inspection teams onto the fire ground, we can't confirm [how many properties have been lost]," he said on Tuesday night. "We're still seeing very strong winds, it's still quite warm. It will probably remain an emergency for some time." NSW Police urged people to check for local road closures and "use extreme caution due to fallen power lines and trees".

Bougainville's 20-year journey to likely independence could lead to 'crisis' in PacificAnother regional crisis looms in the pacific if the people of Bougainville vote for independence but are unable to reach an agreement with the PNG Government to ratify it, a Lowy Institute research paper warns. Nat_Whiting Thankyou for the article. You say that Bougainville was administered by Australia for 60 years to 1975. That's correct, but your comment 'along with the rest of PNG' is not, as Papua was administered by Australia from 1906, taking over from the Brits (from 1884).
