What treasures lie within the vast cavern of Cleft Island - better known as Skull Rock - have been largely held secret... until now. travellerau wilsonsprom

If you've ever been to Wilsons Promontory, the southernmost point of Australia's mainland, you may have been intrigued by a mysteriously-shaped and apparently hollow island that eerily stands out on the horizon.

And it's not just the natural sights that are attracting attention, but the boat itself. The custom built, amphibious James Bond-esque vessel can cross land and sea, allowing passengers to hop on and off at Norman Beach, where it four-wheel-drives across the Tidal River's mouth before verging into the sea.

By submitting your email you are agreeing to Fairfax Media's terms and conditions and privacy policy. I gulp as I look over toward the hulking island, which still seems some distance away over the shipwreck-studded ocean floor and will involve a lot more of those thrilling bounces over the waves. But any fear of having to lurch over the boat's edge fades as the island and its gargantuan opening comes into clear view. Spanning 130 metres wide, 60 metres high and 60 metres deep, the Cleft is so big it could engulf the Sydney Opera House.

While I was disappointed to hear there was no treasure, what these nimble adventurers did find were old cannon balls left by passing ships practising their aim. There are also holes on the outside of the granite rock, which have been blamed on the Australian Defence Force. Australia-UK trade agreement a ‘win-win’ for both sides | Sky News AustraliaAustralia and the United Kingdom’s free trade agreement is a “win-win” for both sides, according to Victoria Treadell.\n\nMs Treadell, the British high commissioner to Australia, said she hoped to see tariffs “come right down” over more than a decade. \n\n“This is a win-win for both sides, it is about economic growth and jobs,” she told Sky News Australia.\n\n“For our consumers, I think this is where the great benefit will come from greater choice and lower cost, particularly as we move towards the tariff-free elements that are enshrined in the agreement in principle as we nut that out and finalise the detail into the full-blown free trade agreement.\n\n“The opportunity for Australian farmers, for example, back into the UK market.\n\n“If you take your lamb meat industry, currently it can face up to 80 per cent tariffs on Australian lamb going into the UK and you have a similar picture on your beef.\n\n“Our ambition, over a 10 to 15-year phasing period, is to see those tariffs come right down.” Well, the current High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Australia would say that, wouldn't she? How come you never called out ScottMorrisonMP for travelling O/S while Australia is the only democracy who doesn't allow citizens to leave? I should know as I've applied 20 times for an exemption.
