Labor MP Matt Thistlethwaite says there has been “a lot of talk from the government” on policies to keep older Australians in the workforce for longer “but not much action”.

It comes ahead of Treasurer Josh Frydenberg making a speech to the Committee for Economic Development of Australia in which he’ll warn older Australians will need to work longer.

“The treasurer’s been good at delivering speeches outlining what the issues and problems for Australia are, not so good with coming up with plans and policies,” Mr Thistlethwaite told Sky News. “This is an issue that’s been in the media and had the attention of policy-makers for some years now. “The government’s been in office for over six years now and they haven’t come up with a policy to deal with it.
