Liberal Senator James Paterson says he found it "surprising and disappointing" following China's decision to cancel his visa before a planned visit to the country. China is demanding Liberal MPs Andrew Hastie and James Paterson "repent and redress their mistakes" if they want to visit Beijing.

The pair were due to travel to the country as part of a study tour, however on Friday it was revealed their visas had been cancelled. Both MPs have publicly criticised China for recent human rights abuses, as well as perceived attempts to exert influence in Australia. “I’m an agnostic so repenting is not really my style,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Host Chris Kenny. But I'm particularly not going to be repenting at the instruction or command of a foreign authoritarian power".

YES big mistake They Should of let them in Its amazing how many people JUST go missing in strange COUNTRIES

more likely the Chinese have realised the liberals have done them self their own grave in Australia and eventually the Australian people will wake up so it's no use funding the liberals anymore

That tells you everything about radical and fascist this government has become when even China won't let them in anymore 😂😂😂

Attacking China our largest trading partner and responsible for most of our GDP in public has consequences... Who knew? 🤣 🤣 🤣

Study Tour...just a fancy name for a taxpayer funded holiday..Be better served to send the pair of them to the bushfire areas in NSW and QLD and let them learn to be volunteer firemen...Mind you that would require them to associate with actual workers and get their hands dirty.

He's going over there to make a dick of himself, I don't support censorship but it's hardly surprising China has blocked this move.

Don't need to swim in the Sewer to know its SEWERAGE- He should thank them

The people of Hong Kong know what they’re in for and Hastie’s treatment by China is actually farcical. Should be of no surprise based on many media reports over time of people and nations having to accept the way of the emperor and bow down in order to do business and interact with this great nation. The pope would be envious of the emperors power over the world. Obviously not enough brown paper bags with the Visa application.

'Outspoken' Liberal politicians must 'repent and redress', says ChinaChina has declared it won't 'yield to colonization of ideas and values' and says Liberal MPs Andrew Hastie and Senator James Paterson will need to 'repent and redress their mistakes' Interesting, as China seem hell bent on colonising us with their backward values. Also interesting that China deny visa's based on criticism of China, yet we let them in by the hundreds of thousands, and even let them buy our land. Our Politicians are easily played for fools. I get that it's bad for an authoritarian state to say, 'You've been mean to us so you can't travel here.' On the other hand I can't imagine anyone feeling especially hospitable toward these two complete and utter bastards.

Looking to China for a remedy: inside the National Institute of Complementary MedicineSome say traditional Chinese medicine has the answers Western medicine lacks. The Chinese Communist Party wants the world behind it. This is the Australian connection. liammannix Selling out your scientific credibility for $$. Encouraging nonsense cures and the exploitation of endangered flora and fauna around the world. A great story liammannix. liammannix I worry about the broader issue of scientific credibility for sale. Pharmaceutical/implant/supplement companies, private health insurers, chiropractic posture devices etc. etc. A dangerous balancing act that's becoming more common with falling public funding.
