Advocates argue it is a human need to express your sexuality but the government says the NDIS will not help with sexual support | CanberraCamper

Disabled Australians should be able to access sex toys, dating support and sex workers under the National Disability Insurance Scheme if they require them to live a normal life, a coalition of disability advocates says.

The agency recently launched an appeal against a tribunal decision that granted a severely disabled women access to a sex therapist under her NDIS plan.People with Disability Australia spokesperson Matthew Bowden said it was a "human need" for people to be able to express their sexuality and have fulfilling sexual experiences, urging the government to show a "compassionate approach to a private and sensitive issue".

"While accessing services of a sex worker may not be for everyone, this option should not be denied or dismissed on the basis of disability, or the moral beliefs of third parties." The woman is in her 40s and was diagnosed with MS about 16 years ago. She finds it difficult to walk but has no loss of intellectual capacity.

CanberraCamper Uncomfortable topic for some, but a real issue for many!

CanberraCamper Give them have a gig in the Mardi Gras. They can have access to All kinds of perverted services in that cesspool... 😏

CanberraCamper It's a fine line, sympathy for disabled people, cannot be seen to support sex workers.

CanberraCamper They cant save up enough on their pension to pay for it on their own?

CanberraCamper Well they funded Barnaby no questions asked!!

CanberraCamper This should work out well. The disabled parking system definately wasn’t abused.

CanberraCamper I think sex workers offer their services to a wide range of people and for many, like the disabled may be there only way to express themselves sexually. I tend to think they should get access to these services at least once a year.

CanberraCamper Let's put housing for the homeless ahead of sexual needs.

Probably not a good idea to have cosmetic (or any other) surgery at a place with “cut price” in its title. You get what you pay for and shouldn’t be risking your health to save a few $$$$ Oh the victimhood! Why do many women never accept responsibility for their actions? 1stworldproblems

Advance Australia Fair rewritten: Would you accept a change to the national anthem? The national anthem has been rewritten and performed for the first time in Alice Springs by a group that says it should be more inclusive of all Australians. Hell yes the anthem must be changed - but to 'I am Australian'. I support this change to include our indigenous countrymen but I also feel an abridged version of 'I am Australian' is more inspiring and talks better to our Australian history & experience Get rid of the whole anthem, it is boring colonial rubbish, I never sing it because it is so outdated it is a joke, something more rousing, getting the blood pumping and inclusive of all citizens.

Nadia Bokody: I wore a ‘naked’ outfit through the CBDNadia Bokody: What happened when I wore a ‘naked’ romper through Sydney’s CBD: No one gives a shit Looks normal to me. Wouldn't it be interesting if, when modern women crave attention &/or seek to make an impact, they moved beyond the quickest & easiest option of getting naked? It's getting tedious. And would this approach be deemed entertaining, or toxic & threatening, if men followed suit? Hmm
