Operators of 7-Eleven stores have paid back more than $176 million to staff and made more than $10 million worth of improvements five years after an investigation began into wage theft at the company.
The FWO said 7-Eleven voluntarily entered into a Compliance Deed in December 2016 to improve compliance across its network. The FWO brought 11 lawsuits against 7-Eleven franchisees resulting in courts awarding more than $1.8 million in penalties against them. Improvements owners have put in place include a biometric time recording system across all its Australian stores, requiring employees to clock-in and out with a thumbprint.
This mob have form - weren't they subject of an investigation by 4 corners or 7.30 a few years ago?
i'm sure they stop selling $1 coffee to get they money back
This is a cultural issue that needs to be addressed... stemmi g from a caste system mentality
Has the ABC paid back their underpayments to their staff yet?
Is it new law the wage theft go direct to jail and not collect £200 when pass GO
The very small tip of a truly humongous iceberg.
Old news
when business robs then they pay the affected staff and the dust settles...when the banks rob the consumers, then the government robs them in name of fines and the consumers get a lollipop to suck and forget their loss..lol.. people who get the money are lawyers..hmmm
'Franchisors can now be held responsible for their franchisees' conduct and may be subject to court proceedings and penalties' Hope this applies to more than just 7-11
Any of them going to jail for theft?
And jail time for the wage theft? No, no? A 8 year goes to juvenile prison for stealing a $0.50 Freddo Frog... but $176,000,000.00 well thats no big deal right, just pay the money and its all dandy..
GOOD.
Guess employing foreign students, under paying and threatening them is not a great business model long term.
