KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala, says the unrest was not a coup, but warns that if the violence continued unabated, it would have led to one. unrestSA RebuildSA

Stressing his point, Zikalala said both sides in the debate were not entirely wrong, but it was better to look at the matter and holistically understand what happened before making conclusions.

Among those who have claimed that the unrest was an insurrection or attempted coup was President Cyril Ramaphosa and Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul, among others. As the interview touched on several issues affecting the province, Zikalala was asked about the Phoenix massacre, where over 20 innocent people were allegedly killed by vigilante groups in the Indian-dominated township of Phoenix, in Durban.

While the tenor of the Premier’s argument is ok, his equating of the October Revolution with a coup is utterly wrong

An inquest/ Zondo commission is needed.

We also demand reparations and restitution for the surviving victims and family members.

Oh voetsek. He was conveniently mia when everything was going down. Now he appears and has vokol to offer.

In not so many words, is this not an admission by the KZN Premier that there was, in fact, a failed coup attempt? The question though is who would have carried out the coup? It could definitely not just be the looters, arsonists and destroyers of property and infrastructure.

He seems to know a lot more than he is prepared to share, he confirms a precursor to a coup but doesn't want people calling it an attempt to it. It will come out.

If the police were doing their jobs when the violence started then all this wouldn't have happened. But the Premier, all the other fat cats stepped back, & watched. Now they wanna talk but they knew everything. The blood is on their hands.

Commission on whose expenses?Taxpayers money Anc for every situation the start useless commissions that they do not pay for😳😳😳

God bless Phoenix. We should never tolerate looting savages in civilised community
