“Previous years have seen higher than inflation increases to the fuel levies – the general fuel levy, the Road Accident Fund levy, customs and excise taxes and the carbon tax.”

The association, however, contends that it would be a dangerous and damaging tactic, especially for the poor, if government turned to fuel levies as a further source of revenue.

According to the AA, the two major taxes – the general fuel and Road Accident Fund levies – comprise around 40% of the price of every litre of fuel sold in SA.

It's insane that you pay a huge amount of your salary to SARS, who merely hands it over to the ANC to loot & waste, then pay 15% VAT on anything you have to purchase & use & more tax when you put in petrol. We are literally taxed into poverty! And no one is held accountable
