Taxpayers are expected to shoulder the country’s dire financial burden as experts predict a 1% increase in VAT in Wednesday’s Budget speech in Parliament by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni. Budget2020

Durban - Taxpayers are expected to shoulder the country’s dire financial burden as experts predict a 1% increase in VAT in Wednesday’s Budget speech in Parliament by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni. The country’s economic growth projection for the next year is expected to dip to 0.8%, according to the International Monetary Fund, and a tax revenue collection shortfall has already been foretasted.

“Pragmatically, we cannot raise corporate taxes because it would scare off investors and we are already highly taxed as individuals. That leaves us with VAT, which is effectively tax on spending,” said Joubert.

I don't understand why people always complain. Whereas you will continue voting for the same party. Take whatever they give you and keep quiet 🤫

So these experts got it wrong...

There need to recover what others took &fill their pockets how else can there recover it charge the innocent citizens for it .It’s simple maths drop down the salaries ,entertainment &expenses for each parliamentary & invest it into people who have hopes of living inthis country.

During the darkest days of criminal apartheid state, when sanctions were crippling SA and internal struggle was a reality, When a small % of the population carried the tax burden of the entire country, When we fought a financially-crippling WAR in Angola NEVER was it this bad.

You mean “the cost of the ANC Ponzi Scheme going tits up”

WE make it & they take it. They fuck up and WE have to fix it. This country...

Tito doesn't know what his doing. Ramaphosa's cabinet is anti-poor. He won't last long.

Yeah wena cadres show us exactly what you made of, tax us so you can prosper, drive fancy cars, renovate your ministerial cribs, take trips overseas with your girlfriends & wives while some of us have no prospects of ever going to Geneva in France, maybe 1day will finally wake up

How about half all ministers and deputy ministers and MP’s salaries to start. Downgrade ALL to travel economy class on airlines, stop all office refurbishments. Wonder how much that would save?

Increase vat to 16%, giv the less privileged R400 rands, loot the national purse, this minister of finance is a joke, his policies promotes inflation. This new dawn strategy must be revised, otherwise SA rand wil b worthless in less dan 5 years they tuk office

Yho

Failed state of relics, who don't know when to retire

That 1% increase is to subsidize Tito’s trips every 2nd day to Makgoebaskloof and his tinned food obsession

That should just about cover the cuban medical bill

I hope this is a joke...

Effects of leading by older people SA isn't going anywhere dark future

Kunganyiwa!

Aowa mara this is too much bathong

Well done
