France and its allies have collected aid pledges of more than €2bn ($2.1bn) dedicated to helping war-torn Sudan, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron looks on as he chairs an international conference to address Sudan’s “forgotten” war, in Paris, on April 15, 2024. France and its allies on April 15, sought to drum up hundreds of millions in aid for Sudan a year since the civil war erupted, sparking one of the world’s worst and most under-funded humanitarian crises.

Sudan, which has been stricken by war for the past one year, is set to receive over €2bn after world donors pledged to contribute to humanitarian support at a Paris conference on Monday.“We can announce that over €2bn will be mobilised…. this support will be able to respond to the most urgent needs” for Sudan’s population ranging from a food crisis to education, said French President Emmanuel Macron.

“It is a conflict imposed on the people that only produces grief and suffering, provoking one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world,” he said.Also receive offers from The Africa Report's partners “No one forgot the revolution of 2018, which raised so much hope. It was ruined by cynicism… We will get there,” he said.he says the outcome was very positive. “It was really good in terms of humanitarian pledges,” he says.
