The new director-general of the British broadcaster says political views on social media risk damaging its reputation for impartiality

“If you want to be an opinionated columnist or a partisan campaigner on social media then that is a valid choice, but you should not be working at the BBC,” he said on Thursday in his first speech to staff. He is committed to a publicly funded BBC, he said, but it has to reflect all political views across all the UK and all age groups.
