Portfolio committee announced the postponement of its inquiry into the appointment of Professor Peter Mbati as vice-chancellor of Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University

as vice-chancellor of Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, in order to allow legal processes to unfold.

Three months ago, its chairperson Philly Mapulane led a very vocal and scathing campaign against Mbati’s supposedly improper appointment due to allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him at the University of Venda . Mapulane also reportedly accused the department of higher education, science and technology for lacking political will in enforcing that the Univen Council hold Mbati accountable.
