back-to-back CAF Champions League titles, the Egypt Cup and consecutive CAF Super Cups – has seen him compared to legendary Ahly coach, Manuel José in recent times.
José is widely regarded as the club's greatest-ever manager after he guided the Red Devils to six league titles, four Champions Leagues, and four CAF Super Cups, among other honours, across three stints at the helm in Cairo. For his part, Mosimane is not being drawn into any comparisons with his Portuguese predecessor and revealed that he still has some way to go before being able to emulate his achievements in the dugout.
"I respect every manager that took this position before me, José had massive success with Al Ahly, it’s historic," the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss said, per"I have a lot of respect for president El-Khatib as well, he chose me for the position in a time when I wasn’t well known yet, but he knew I understand African football.
"The comparison between me and José is unfair, he made a great history with Al Ahly, it’s like comparing any Manchester United manager to Alex Ferguson."
