The Higher Education and Training Department's allocated R967 million to the scheme to settle historic debt owed to universities by over 52,000 students.

CAPE TOWN - The National Youth Development Agency has welcomed Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor's decision to allocate money to settle the National Student Financial Aid Scheme funded students’ historic debt.

This means the allocation announced on Sunday is specifically for students who were funded under the previous NSFAS scheme before improved funding started last year. The students have not been able to pay back the money after being required to settle their accounts through their own funding.
