This means the allocation announced on Sunday is specifically for students who were funded under the previous NSFAS scheme before improved funding started last year.

JOHANNESBURG - More than 52,500 National Student Financial Aid Scheme students currently studying will benefit from R967 million from the Department of Higher Education and Training to settle their historic debt.

This comes after years of student protests about poor and "missing middle" youths being kicked out of universities because they couldn't settle their debt. Minister Naledi Pandor spoke to CapeTalk host Kieno Kammies about the allocation to money to settle student’s historic debt. "The government was not able to allocate full funding to students previously. The scheme would have a partial grant and families would have to make a contribution and many families who applied for NSFAS were poor so they couldn't meet that cost, which meant that students would borrow from the university."

Easy to smile and write off debt when it’s not your money

An Election ploy in bid to garner more votes.. Also, BornFree's will be led to believe that it's an ANC gesture.. AngieMotshekga

Its surprising that students were arrested for asking for free education not long ago, some have been arrested and prosecuted, while people who have failed to provide foresight in funding students will never be persecuted for failing to take the nation forward...

Won’t do any good when it comes to employment checks. Written off debt just means the creditor isn’t asking for money anymore. It doesn’t mean you don’t owe it.

Look at the mug on that one^ is she really who you want responsible for the future of your children because I sure as shit dont.

This was meant to be last year, surprise surprise they start talking come elections, it will still not happen, just more ANC smoke and mirrors.

Elections around the corner

To win votes with money it doesn’t have.

Election tactics nice timing 🍾🥂🎂

To get votes silly

So everyone who owed NSFAS their debt will be written off?

There is an election in six weeks.

ANC just bought a couple million votes me thinks.

Dept clarifies qualification criteria for NSFAS funding to settle historic debtThis means the allocation announced on Sunday is specifically for students who were funded under the previous NSFAS scheme before improved funding started last year. I wonder what is the dept planning about those who finished their courses but are struggling to pay back the funds. The interest is too much, they should offer big discounts to those who are able to pay.
