The National Sea Rescue Institute has issued a safety advisory for two ‘higher-than-normal high tides and two lower-than-normal low tides’ as the full moon spring tide remains present, peaking on Saturday, 22 June.Be aware of adverse weather, strong winds, fast-flowing rivers and sea drifts.
This spring tides will gradually decline in intensity towards the middle of next week but remains a potential risk to bathers around the coastline – especially during the outgoing tide. Be cautious on coastal hiking trails during high tide and while bathing, boating, or paddling inland, where heavy rainfall is forecast.The NSRI is calling on the public to embrace the chill and join a winter solstice plunge to raise funds for their life-saving services.
