The lead investigator in the Public Protector's Phala Phala investigation is adamant there is no evidence that President Cyril Ramaphosa"influenced, coerced or dictated" to his security chief about how he should deal with the notorious break-in.
"There was no evidence upon which to conclude that after reporting both the security breach and the crime to General Rhoode, the president abused his power and state or resources, or gave specific instructions to General Rhoode or any person or official, directing and controlling how the matter should be handled by SAPS, other persons or organs of state," investigator Vusumuzi Dlamini states.
The Phala Phala break-in was only publicly revealed two years after it happened, when former spy boss Arthur Fraser laid charges against Ramaphosa over the burglary and the bizarre criminal cover-up he claimed had followed it – in what the president's lawyers later contended was a cynically motivated attempt to undermine his leadership of the ANC.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
