Vavi said the shutdown is a start of the total emancipation of the working class from poverty, inequality and oppression. “We’re not aiming at just having a one-day strike.” He echoed former president Thabo Mbeki and EFF leader Julius Malema’s warnings of a “civil war” if living conditions of South Africans did not improve and their issues were ignored.

It is to serve their employed members' interests. Unemployed people fall outside their constituency, and unions have no mandate to speak on their behalf. SAFTU_media _cosatu Is the demand possible or Vavi is trying to be relevant. Where will money come from if employees are on the streets instead of working to increase production and taxes to be paid to govt so that their demand may be looked at going forward. Staying away is not the solution. This 'demands' demonstrate on how clueless these leaders are with regards to how an economy works.
