JOHANNESBURG - Gun Owners South Africa is disputing Gun Safe Cities’ research on gun ownership in South Africa. It says research shows that people are more likely to have their gun used against them than being able to use it for self-defence.However, Gun Owners South Africa says crime is escalating, and perpetrators are becoming increasingly violent.

“There is no research, there is no background to it, Gun Safe Cities is a shill for the gun control lobby,” said chairman of Gun Owners South Africa Paul Oxley.Source

Its my right.

It's a right, to keep you and your family safe

A right

A right. But must be held accountable for safety only

Will taking firearms away from people make them safer and society free from crime, particularly crime involving firearms? If youvthink 'yes' how do you remove illegal weapons? If 'no' what if any limitations must apply to ownership?

FrazenburgLloyd Necessity in SA.

Why can it be previllage,?

It's become a right to kill yourself and loved ones in a satanic rage.

In this country with our incompetent police open borders it should be a right especially in isolated communities farms townships etc where police services are hours away

Stupid question, is defending yourself a right or a privilege?

It's a right. Every human being has a right to protect themself.

It’s a right for us uZulu omnyama

From were I come from it should be a right

If theres such a thing as 'Right to life' then why shouldn't it be RIGHT to preserve that life by any means necessary? A gun is only a tool and can serve as an equalizer in various scenarios like rape, muggings, home invasions. Hey, we could even protect LEO and EMS staff💁🏽‍♂️

It's a necessity in SA

It’s a privilege of course because guns are very expensive.

Owning a gun in south africa is ukuzidonsela amanzi ngomsela. I always told myself I would get one as a female but after studying Criminal Law and the requirements of Self Defence, it now sounds like ASKING for legal problems - i have decided Id rather own pepper spray or a taser

Privilege, if you can afford it.

It’s a right.....

...a right for citizens and a necessity for criminals.

It should be a right. We need a second amendment here!

Due to the lack of security and safety these days in the Country, I thinking its a right... I need to rely on my self for my safety.

It's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it

What a useless question. Who extends the privilege?

As a black woman, it should be a right for all of us femicide

It is a right for responsible people.

Imagine thinking that it’s a privilege to be able to protect the ones you love.

It is like owning a car. You have the right to own one on condition that you are proficient in its use, it must be licenced and registered. Ballistic information must be also be recorded.

I have 4guns, i trained my wife and teen kids to blow the mother fukers brainless heads off their shoulders. Our bullets are hollow points. It will be like shooting pumpkins.

Necessity.............

A right

For man and women must owning a gun or firearm is their right so long they got the license. You must protect yourself, your family and the liberal what hate firearms or gun. Police is half corrupt, lazy and small to deal with all the criminals in this country.

Too many criminals in south africa, I urge all law abiding citizens to own a gun in south africa.

It's a very important right, especially for women

It's definitely a right.

Now in the current South Africa we live in it MUST BE A RIGHT

Its murder why should we own thing that will causes us problems, licenses or no license you will be found guilty.

Question is it a privilege to kill or be killed.

A right

try answering that question when rapists, murderers, hijackers and bail-freed criminals have you and your loved ones cornered...

We have the right to defend ourselves. Criminals are armed with guns so citizens should have the right to protect themselves adequately, and that means the right to own a gun

Dit is noodsaaklik in hierdie wettelose land

A right to safety and security

A right

It was a right, now it's privilege

A crime

We can only argue that owning a gun is a right only if we can successfully prove that these killing machines were ever designed as security/safety tools to begin with. Otherwise, it's a privilege to own one.

Privilege I believe.

It’s a right

A right, citizens must have a right to posses a gun for self defense. Those who dont want guns must not apply, but they must not dictate for other people who want to posses firearms.

Gun ownership should be a right, provided that the necessary requirements are met and that there are no factors prohibiting a particular person from attaining it. Law-abiding citizens need to be afforded every opportunity to protect themselves & their families.

Right !!!

Of cos it is do u realise we living in south africa

If you black it's your right White is always privlege mani Heish What's up with these trick questionzz he

It's a privilege

Right

It's a right. Unfortunately our govt don't want us to exercise that right and the only people to have that right are criminals.

As long as you do it through the proper corridors, Its a right for everyone to be able to defend themselves...But at the same time we can’t be like th US and just give a gun to anyone...People need to be vetted and tested...

It protect you Today and kill you Tomorrow

It's a right, to protect myself and my family from crime and the government... In case it were to turn tyrannical. All responsible & credible South Africans should possess some type of firearm, democracies don't last forever.

Check this out & decide 😭

Issa privileged

Not sure but I know I need it

It's a right. Government was supposed to look after its citizens, but failed dismally.

It's a right and I would advise every law abiding citizen to lawfully get one, South Africa is violent unlawful country we are left for dead and without protection you will die, arm yourself to protect the ones you love.

Right to safety

Both

It's a right.......but a nightmare for the left who is trying their best to disarm law-abiding citizens

Ask white people

It’s a right, because if the police can’t keep you safe, you have to keep yourself safe.

Both for sure

If this statement was indeed made, then 'Gun Safe Cities' should provide unbiased evidence for South Africa. Until then this is opinion and not fact.

It's a necessity to own a gun nowadays with the crime rate that's so high

It's a privilege in this country the U can't buy a firearm just to protect yourself u have to have assets to protect

Are we saying gangsters have a right to own illegal firearms? The way i see it stupid bheki cele would rather have illegal guns all over the show instead of legal ones

Privilege

If unesbhamu nawe unesbhamu mese siyaxabana kuzokwenzakala?........wake up black child this is planned war....

A necessity in today's life

GovernmentZA SAPoliceService Gives Criminals and Murderers a Right to own and use firearms at their leisure and pleasure . It's only legit FireArm owners that are subject to a barrage of rules..

It's a privilege

It's a necessity

A need

It's a right

It’s neither it is a no no

Let the writer of that article come live in my hood for 2 weeks

Right!!!

A right

It's your right to protect your self and family.

Should be a right, but in our beloved it’s a privilege. Tried to apply for it numerous times without success.

It's WRONG, not a right. It's a pistol, not a GUN, A GUN is a Canon

Its for self defense...

yes

You're actually more at risk having a gun than not. Accidental gun death especially amongst children is very common. Unless you're heavily trained having a gun won't protect you like you think. It's a lot more complicated than point and fire.

We are in a warzone need i say more?

A criminal with a gun is as dangerous as a paranoid person with a gun

RIGHT !!!

Well guns were made to kill am I correct?

Warning ! We have many republicans in the comments the USA NRA must be delighted

Right

Aslong as uve legally obtained it then it's tight..to protect yourself from these rough out there

It is my right to be protected in RSA but the police are unable to comply now or ever to ensure this. Therefore it is my right to own to own

I have a right to protect my life and the lives of my family. Given the level of violent crime in this country unfortunately that means owning gun. It also means ensuring that I am well trained (which I am) and keeping it safe (which I do). So yes, it's a right.

Criminals always caught you off guard when committing crimes so there’s no ways owning a gun can protect you, in fact your chances of getting killed are high because you are threat to criminals,

To own *anything* is a privilege, definitely NOT a right❗️

It is neither a right or privilege. Only police officers should carry arms.

A right

That is the only effective juctice system in South Africa. I am applying for one now.

We need a gun free country even police mustn’t carry guns, more guns in the society more crime!!! Gun doesn’t guarantee you safety, one gun can rob 4 guns, once a criminal points with a firearm you comply finish and klaar your gun is taken too,

I remember when I was young my dad refused when I asked him if it’s fine to own a firearm until last year where he asked why I don’t have one since crime in our country is so rife. Nobody is safe. Rather own one than to always be in fear on how you’d defend yourself.

It should be a right

Our problem is we think of a gun as some kind of elixir or fix-all. Truth is, gun or not, real life situations will require tactical knowledge. A gun is an elixir if a warning shot can dissuade your perps...

In South Africa it’s a must. The ANC government has allowed a violent out of control society. No solutions have ever been proposed. Time to bring the death sentence back. Let the people vote for it.

Better to have one and not need it as opposed to not having one when you do need it! A right, definitely a right.

certainly a right.

The article does not answer the question but leaves it open to the court of public opinion which is dangerous 🤔

It is a right to be able to protect yourself, not a privilege.

Right ..must ...need...

It is most certainly a right. To withhold that right is to be complicit in the harm that comes to somebody that is unable to defend themselves. gunrights selfdefence In SA pathetically designed gun control has already denied citizens of their right to easy access of firearms.

A right here in South Africa. Illegal guns flood our communities and I won’t mention police involvement coz they useless.

In South Africa white privilege cause I’ve been waiting for my license since 2009 till now and I don’t have a criminal record but vandonder has just got his license two months ago and in 2010 he completed his metric

We attain guns particularly to keep ourselves safe, so I don't think it's a privilege to protect yourself it's your right... everyone has a right to safety and security, it's there in the bill of rights

It's a privilege

I want 1, it's getting messy out there

A right

It's a right as long as it's attained legally

Is setting off fireworks a right or a privilege?

It,s a privilage

A right, definitely a right...

Have to own a gun in SA for self defence

Owning a gun is a right. and we encourage all law abiding citizens to acquire legal firearms to protect themselves against dangerously armed criminals

It wasn’t supposed to be either.Alas, we live in SA.

No it's illegal in most parts of Cape Town.

A right

It's a privilege.

Or a mistake?

'Pay your own Bosasa legal fees, Mr President': DA's Mmusi MaimaneDA leader Mmusi Maimane wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to pay his own legal fees should he decide to challenge the yet to be released public protector report on Bosasa. That's correct, PresJGZuma has also been told to pay his legal fees They're going to pay for me like it or not, That's on Zuma's mind. In my view the DA& Public Protector's cheap& confusing drama on the Bosasa donation to the ANC election team do not directly link our President to money laundering! SA many foundations,Zuma,Malema,& Tutu& our President is not going around directly as for money&not managing daily
