President Cyril Ramaphosa said the heckling he received while paying tribute at the memorial service of Robert Mugabe was aimed at the entire country.

Durban - President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the heckling he received while paying tribute at the memorial service of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe over the weekend was aimed not at him, but the entire country.

“Immigrants must not be turned into scapegoats, nor must we take our legitimate frustrations on the slow pace of economic and social reform out on immigrants who have come to our country.” Ramaphosa also used the address to outline his views on gender-based violence. He has called a special joint sitting of parliament on Wednesday to discuss the topic in the wake of several highly publicised incidents of violence against women and children.

He blamed “toxic masculinity” and a “deeply patriarchal society” and called on the need for “gender neutral socialisation” to be built into the school curriculum.

Really, and how many whites were involved in the xenophobic attacks exactly? Ball park figure will suffice.

Cyril Mxolisi Ramaphosa please deal with drug lords that are busy destroying South Africa in that way we'll see you doing something.

Stop.disrespecting.yr voters listen to their cries.Asikthumanga e Nigeria to apologise thy never apologise for.the murder of our taxi driver.

No he's wrong that heckling was directed to him, speak for yourself bro, your problem is that you only interact with masses during campaign season after that you lock yourself in those well air-conditioned offices.UNIZULU is burning but you won't set your foot there, why?

That's wht I call passing the Presidential buck And wht was the point he was trying to make with that statement? All us Sans are responsible for Mugabe looting and mass murder By a real African hero? Keep that shyte thought to your presidential self

They smelled a rat

It was good to apologize as a leader of the country. As you chairing the African Union next year please tell all African states to take care or their citizens so that they dont seek refugees in SA. A

President Ramaphosa please i beg you again and again dat give an advice to yr President colleague mnangagwa to confess that he rigged election and give the rightfull winner to lead Zimbabwe that's the only solution to this inflow of Zimbabweans into SA

we are minding our own business and quenching thirst and Cyril decides to blame us for everything...His out of order!

It was unrest, born out of frustration because South African's are going hungry and foreigners, normally those who are into illegal trading and/or drugs are worked out of their societies. I'm not condoning the violence however, this is the African way. Vigilantism.

Nope. Only at the ANC. And you all thought he was a good guy. He never was. As a matter of fact, since he came to power, he has done absolutely nothing in SA. All he did was travel the world and grabbed some more money for the ANC guys.

Kahle kahle fanele uchathe. . Unegazi elmile .... ilesouth Africa abakfuni ngoba uyantshontsa futhi unamanga .. ingale komngcele awufunwa ... atleast you've got billions. ..for which we yet to ask how you acquired it

This one can't take responsibility nje! SA is his, makangasinyeli lo tata

No sir I'm not in government (quite diplomacy) who believes in open borders, NOT working at Home Affairs, NOT patrolling our borders, wasn't part of the looting & killing of foreigners and definitely not xenophobic - APOLOGY NOT ON MY BEHALF.

He still says it’s xenophobic attacks.

Amanga aluhlanza, njenge njwayelo.

Why the entire country? It was mostly Zulu hostel dwellers!!

ehlers_anthony Wow !!! now Ramaphoza want to blame the SA publick for the ANC SHIT

Why he's involving us? We didn't send him, ay this one mara!

wesleyscott575 How kind of you, mR president.

Iyo!!! O qadile Cereal ka leshano!

the Zimbabweans finally cheered at president Ramaphosa on our behalf

Not at me. I didn’t carry on like a hooligan running around and burning down foreign-owned shops.

What does this country owe Mugabe? Ramaphosa is another two-faced turncoat!!

That's very true Mr President. People who care to know a bit of history knows that when Pik Botha was booed and heckled at international fora the resentment was directed to the discrimination & treatment of blacks by the apartheid regime. Now it's directed at democratic S. Africa

ehlers_anthony And he is bothered of Zim is booing him? I would have laughed at them.

Akenizweni bakwethu

Think we should change his nick name from 'buffalo' to 'rhino' !!!!!

We were not there haaibo

He should have not apologise those African country it's not easy to get there but to mzansi it's simple and easy

Yawn..!

No. It was aimed at the President and the inability of the Government to provide basic human rights and provide a safe environment to live in. Dont blame the whole country for your incompetence Mr President

We’re not that bothered by them, They’re useless

We are not part the entire country

SA should eat humble pie and apologise for xenophobic attacksAn apology will serve as a mark of contrition and as a self-reflective moment about the depths of SA’s struggles of belonging and identity, writes Elias Phaahla You spelt CRIMINALS and THEFT wrong. And what we should be doing is arresting these criminals and protecting the citizens of this country and stop protecting the criminals! Well written article. It’s is very concerning the slow speed at which the SA government reacts to major issues. The xenophobia attacks, the public outcry regarding attacks on women. CR and his govt have consistently been on the back foot. The govt needs to be more responsive. There was never a xnophonlbic attack! People just just like to hear themselves talking..Nx!!
