The children’s grandfather, Mthundezi Simayile , said they were saddened by the tragedy

Immediately after she told us she had killed her children, I rushed to her hut. There was blood all over and the kids were lying on their mats. She had hit their heads. I don’t understand what prompted her to commit such an atrocious act. She loved her children too much.Gulandoda Primary School teachers, who visited the family, said the children's home life was challenging. They described the family homestead as two rondavels with no chairs, no mugs, and that the children had no beds.

Speaking to City Press on condition of anonymity, one of the teachers said a family member called the school to inform them about the murders.“We immediately rushed to the home of the children, and we were there just before 7am. They were still laying on their mats, but blood was oozing from their heads. It is alleged that the mother said she wanted her children dead before she could die,” said the teacher.I feel bad about the situation at that home.

In the morning, four deceased bodies of the children were found in the rondavel hut where they were sleeping. Preliminary investigation reveals that their own mother had assaulted them with a sledgehammer. Consequently, they suffered serious injuries to their upper bodies.“The mother was immediately arrested and will be charged with murder. She is expected to appear in Engcobo Magistrates' Court once charged.” In times of uncertainty you need journalism you can trust.
