The minister says in one incident a young police officer was shot and killed while responding to an incident of domestic violence in Sandton, Gauteng.

Police Minister Bheki Cele has said that five members of the South African Police Service have been “brutally” killed during the lockdown.

Some were shot, while others were stabbed, the minister said, adding that in one incident a young police officer was shot and killed while responding to an incident of domestic violence in Sandton, Gauteng. The minister said the police have received complaints about the heavy-handedness of its members when enforcing lockdown regulations, but said that officers do know and are constantly reminded about the SAPS code of conduct, which stipulates what the police can and cannot do.

In response to a media question relating to criticism by Judge Hans Fabricius on Cele’s comments and the behaviour of police officers when enforcing lockdown regulations, Cele said he has not made “any illegal statements”. Cele said as a “product of the struggle of these human rights” he would not undermine the rights of others.

COVID-19: Global cases top five millionDespite the high number of cases several countries are either planning to or have already eased lockdown restrictions. Compare it with the Spanish flu where 300 million people contracted that virus and 30 to 50million people died at a time when the world population was approximately 1 Billion. Now the world's population is more than 7 billion people and so far approximately 335 thousand deaths. Cases don't mean death.... I guess that's what scares our fellow ppl, when they hear cases increasing ,they immediately see those as if it's death cases.recoveries stats outweigh death stats ,which is what we should focus our energy on. The positive side of these is recoveries
