A former English Premier League and Ghana star is reportedly trapped under the rubble after a huge earthquake struck Turkey on Monday. Full story ➡️

Atsu, who joined Turkish topflight outfit Hatayspor in September 2022, is among several members of the club who are yet to be rescued, including the side's sporting director, Taner Savut.

Some of the players are said to have been recovered with sustained injuries, as the team had been staying at a hotel that was destroyed in the aftermath of the tragic natural disaster. It is also suggested that about 30 to 40 professional athletes have been affected in the situation. Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement regarding the devastating event, stating:"I convey my best wishes to all our citizens who were affected by the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaras and was felt in many parts of our country."Our search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the areas affected by the earthquake. Our Ministry of Interior and Health, AFAD, Governorships and all other institutions started their work rapidly.

"We also coordinate the works initiated after the earthquake. We hope that we will get through this disaster together as soon as possible and with the least damage, and we continue our work."Rescue efforts are still on going and Atsu's safety remains unconfirmed. The 31-year-old has featured for several sides in England including, Everton and Bournemouth, while he was also notably contract to Chelsea between 2013 and 2017.
