Former Banyana Banyana star Portia Modise claimed Desiree Ellis has favoured coloured players in her national team selection.

Former Banyana Banyana star Portia Modise was slammed online for her comment about coloured Banyana Banyana players.for picking coloured players following the team’s failure to qualify for the Olympics. The South African women’s national soccer team lost 1-0 on aggregate to Nigeria in the final qualifying round.

Speaking on the Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube radio show, Modise blamed Ellis for picking coloured players in the national team. “I see a lot of coloureds today and they don’t have jam. We need jam, the only people with jam are black people, let’s be honest,” she said.When asked if her comment was racist, Modise denied, claiming Banyana has been racist for far too long.

Very irresponsible statement by Portia, at her age and experience, she should know better.
