South Africa Headlines News

This was due to energy demand plummeting during the national lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the power utility's chief executive, Andre de Ruyter, told Parliament.

Eskom's income has shrunk by about R2.5 billion in April as energy demand plummeted due to the country's national lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the power utility's chief executive, Andre de Ruyter, said on Wednesday.

He said the power utility's "reliability" maintenance programme has been hampered by the restrictions imposed by the health crisis in that foreign experts could not travel to South Africa as required. De Ruyter said Eskom engineers had, however, in other respects been able to chip away at the utility's maintenance backlog and this could mean that the company's buffer of available capacity could be 2 000 megawatt bigger by the end of the year.

Are you saying it makes money, you can't lose what you don't make.

Thanks to corrupt and incompetent oiltoes.

We need a new Eskom!

..but whilst we are all not using massive amounts of power, now you have time to fix all the broken shit, so get to it.

Eskom should focus on fixing and making sure that we no longer have loadshedding forever, not telling us about billions lost

2.5 billion is a bit inflated. Suka😂😂😂

No businesses were operating...so should be a saving to Eskom. It's because your overheads far more exceed your income! Start to balance your overheads versus income

Basically anything that happens or does not happen causes a loss to Eskom.

Hier kom kaak. 🙆🏿‍♂️

Hawu! Do they make that much vele and still ask for bailouts🤔

Well we have been paying...even during lockdown... Where has the money gone?

Shame🤣

'drop' & 'loss' are not synonyms. A drop in income is not the same a loss in income.
