Political parties agreed to switch the Sona venue last week after a blaze destroyed some buildings in the Parliament precinct. But during a joint programming committee meeting of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces on Thursday, EFF chief whip Floyd Shivambu rejected the city hall, questioning why a bigger venue should not be found to accommodate all the members of Parliament .
However, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli said a decision on the Sona venue had already been made and that members should accept that, and not open it up for discussion. “It is possible that you can have all members. We have looked at various venues. But also, we looked at the financial implications of that. That is why we settled on the city hall. It was ideal to get all MPs, but unfortunately due to the venue capacity, we’re unable to get all of them.”
