Cyril Ramaphosa applauds Elon Musk on historic space flight

In a statement, Ramaphosa said, “In the midst of our struggle against Covid-19, Elon Musk has made us proud as a country and continent.”

Powered by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, the Dragon spacecraft carried NASA astronauts, Bob Behnken and Dough Hurley, into space on Saturday. Nineteen hours later, the crew docked safely at the International Space Station . This marks the first time in history that a private sector entity launched astronauts for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration , which is a state owned entity. A SpaceX Falcon 9, with NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken in the Dragon crew capsule, prepare to lift off.

“It is most appropriate that we have been given this hope and excitement at a time when insecurity and uncertainty defines the human condition in many parts of the world,” he added. In an interview with space.com, Musk said: “I'm really quite overcome with emotion on this day, so it's kind of hard to talk, frankly.”African News Agency/ANA

Had his family stayed in South Africa, he would be just another underpaid, overworked professor with no project funding due to the colour of his skin and no hope of advancement. And he would be answerable to someone higher but less intelligent that is petty and discriminatory.

It’s weird he didn’t achieve this here in SA hey Cyril given all the massive attractions for entrepreneurs like BEE, EWC, NHI, restrictive labour laws, one of the most violent & uneducated “work” forces, crime, junkstatus, and of course our “racist & colonial economy”.

Musk would never been able to achieve in South Africa, what he did in the USA. Not with our Unions, BEE, Corruption, kickbacks, intermittent electricity supply etc etc etc.

I call BS CyrilRamaphosa Elon long ago dusted South African dust from his shoes. Hypothetical question:would an Elon Musk in South Africa today, be able to qualify for a government bailout for his tourism business or are we happy now not seeing race as an issue?

The man is not proudly South African guys. I have always had huge respect for Mr Musk. He is one of my heroes but his lack of care for his home country is a bit off putting.

Would be great if CyrilRamaphosa could get elonmusk to invest in another TESLA factory (cars, batteries, etc.) in South Africa to service the African market. Would be great for renewables and the economy in general
