JOHANNESBURG - The African Christian Democratic Party says it hasn't abandoned its bid for more seats at the National Assembly as political parties take score in this week’s elections.
It's a mixed bag of feelings for a lot of parties, but optimism is the overriding theme among the majority of the parties that have been spoken to at the results operation centre. Not all the parties have shown face yet at the results centre, but there are a few regulars holding their heads up high on the second day after elections.COPE still hoping for seats in National Assembly as vote results lay bare dwindling supportSteve Swart, an ACDP member of Parliament under the 6th administration, said with close to 45,000 votes on the national ballot, he's upbeat about the party’s performance so far.
“Let me emphasise that at this stage, we are guaranteed one seat, and we are still waiting for the metros to come in, so we are hoping to have 4+ seats in Parliament. “It is a challenge, again indicating that the political terrain is difficult with all the new parties competing and of course the finances.”
