A Chula Vista woman who admitted killing another woman whose body was found bound and shot was sentenced to 18 years to life in state prison Friday.
Evaline Janet Lemus, 32, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the shooting death of 22-year-old Kimberly Gutierrez. The body of the La Mesa resident was found in Bonita, near a cul-de-sac at the end of Quarry Road, on Oct. 20, 2021. A deputy on patrol near Sweetwater Summit Regional Park found Gutierrez’s body around 3 a.m. that day, according to the Sheriff’s Department.About six months later, in April 2022, Lemus was in custody for an unrelated drug-related crime when she was charged with Gutierrez’s murder.
