Western Alaska gets warnings and alerts for snow & high winds ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A large May low pressure system will bring stormy, wintry weather to parts of northwest Alaska. This large storm will affect a large swath of the western side of the state.
A Winter Storm Warning for 3 to 7 inches of snow and winds gusting to 60 mph for Bering Strait coasts and Saint Lawrence Island. Winter weather advisories extend over the Seward Peninsula and north to the Red Dog area. This low will push north, but the pattern brings in a couple more by the end of the week.
Meantime, a ridge of high pressure provided a great May day in Anchorage and Southcentral, with sunshine to start off. Clouds building into the afternoon are likely to produce some isolated showers Tuesday evening, but general clearing is the trend over the next 24 hours. High temperatures will be in the 50s, and near 60 in Glennallen and Gulkana Wednesday.
The Kuskokwim river is now reported open according to the latest update from the River forecast center. Hot spot went to Alaska Railroad — Moose Pass with 62 degrees. Cold spot was Shishmaref with a temperature down to 12 degrees.
