Winter weather alerts are in effect for up to 10 inches of snow for areas out westANCHORAGE, Alaska - Some spotty showers are occurring this morning across parts ofAlaska with most of the rain falling for Prince William Sound. Lingering showers can be expected through the day, although much of Southcentral will remain on the drier side.
With that said, diurnal heating could lead to some additional shower development through the Mat-Su later on Tuesday. While thunderstorm activity doesn’t look as likely, a rogue storm or two can’t be ruled out. Overall, today will provide fairly seasonal — if not slightly above average — warmth. We’ll continue to hold on to that warmth into the day on Wednesday, with more sunshine in the forecast.
The same low responsible for lingering showers in Prince William Sound is also leading to additional rain forAlaska. While not as widespread as yesterday, more rain can be expected for Tuesday. It’s likely we’ll see anywhere from a quarter to half an inch of rain for the Panhandle, with more rain expected through the week. There will be plenty of dry time in the coming days, as the rain doesn’t look as widespread for the region.
Breakup conditions are still well underway across Alaska, with the only flood alert near Bethel. A flood warning remains in effect until early afternoon for the Kuskokwim River near Kwethluk. Widespread flooding of homes and infrastructure continue as the water levels continue to recede slowly through the rest of the week.Copyright 2024 KTUU. All rights reserved.
