A little snow is back in Southcentral Alaska’s forecast, especially for higher elevations

A late-season burst of snow is in the forecast Wednesday night into Friday for higher elevations in Southcentral Alaska.

Snow is expected to move into the region Wednesday afternoon and taper off by Thursday morning, with the highest accumulations overnight, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Kutz. The precipitation is expected to begin in parts of the Kenai Peninsula before starting in Anchorage and the Mat-Su, the weather service said.

Another wave of snow was expected to hit the region Thursday afternoon and continue into Friday morning.-Moderate to high confidence for light snow accumulation for locations at 500 ft and higher. There is low confidence for snowfall for areas below 500 ft.One to 2 inches of snow could accumulate in areas above about 800 feet of elevation, Kutz said. Throughout the Anchorage Bowl, precipitation is more likely to fall as rain, he said.It’s rare to see snow this late in the season, Kutz said.
