What will driving be like in 2030? Experts offer a few clues:

ride? Expect an autonomous vehicle to pick you up in certain cities. Keys, like manual transmissions, will fade into oblivion. Gasoline refineries will still be in business but charging stations for electric vehicles will become more prevalent, experts say.

"Automakers are making big bets on EVs," he explained."There's a significant amount of capital in EVs now. But we won't see an inflection point until the middle of the next decade. Battery packs are still cost-prohibitive." "No one is doubting this is the future, but the question is how long" before EVs are widespread, he said.

Renault's EZ Ultimo is an autonomous,100% electric robot concept car. It was part of the elegance competition at the Chantilly Arts and Elegance Richard Mille in the courtyard of Chateau de Chantilly, on June 30, 2019 in Chantilly, France.Self-driving cars could replace taxis and ride-sharing vehicles in urban cities, Brauer said.

"Change is happening very quickly in the auto industry," he said. The timelines for a lot of this technology, however, are"ambitious," he added. People look at the Waymo car, formerly the Google self-driving car project, during CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Jan. 9, 2019.Wakefield said he cannot wait for the day when cars will be able to drive themselves to dealers for maintenance or be summoned by owners in a parking lot.

What trash. The LYFT car will likely run you over as it picks you up. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters?

Lot of gas guzzling negative Nancy’s on this thread. Reality is the article is not far off while it may not reach the bumpkin population it will certainly reach the urban one.

These experts are not very good at future predictions

ABC put too much Vodka in the punch at the potluck

⛽️ Rocks!! Fuck electric cars!!

It won't be my worry I will be deceased.

Only half a billion people will be alive in 2030. The NWO will choose who they will be. WW3 is coming soon to a planet near you.

Battery tech is going to be wild. Between pushes for solid state batteries & leaps with Li-ion batteries. These cars are going to have 700+ miles to the charge & batteries that last well over a million miles worth of charging.

What will we do with all the lithium batteries?

Beats this (7 lanes each direction Friday Night 10PM 405 Bel Air, CA)

Mmm. Ringworm, hepatitis, flu, colds, staph, vomit, piss, used needles. Where do I sign up!

I love how people are freaking out about safety of autonomous cars when we FLY ON AUTOPILOT AT 35,000 FEET. I’d rather people sit in a pod controlled by computers than watch the moron next to me texting with his headphones on while we are going 70 mph on the freeway. Wake up.

To many vehicles on the road & no suitable mass transit in major urban zones. ex. Houston, Dallas, L.A. , S.F. to start with to touch on just a few.

Its looking more like the Flintstones rather than the Jetsons guys.... We need to step up our game!!!

Does nobody watch Doctor Who?

There won't be autonomous vehicles capable of driving in regular traffic, It is just too complicated, sometimes even for humans.

Total BS

You’ll be driving over the old Tesla batteries that will cause real damage to the earth

its somethin that wont fade in the most distant times, its a constant delight that illuminates the darkest nights, whenever im with you i get this feeeling that i always knew you, its that you are my achilles heart

These autonomous vehicles better be regulated

It will B about 1200 Yrs B4 that is Possible.

Another dream crushed !!!

Just how filthy will a self-driving Uber be?

elonmusk wth?

They said there would be flying cars. We're still using oil and spewing toxic exhaust fumes. Liars.

Ah, and I have been waiting for years. I loved the Jetsons!

Fuckers can't master driving on roads as it is, throw someone in a flying rocket... Survival of the fittest I would guess.

Ooooo, great...

You are over 50 , to remember them

Actually, I'm OK with not having flying cars yet. I mean flying cars sounds cool and all but have you really looked at how people drive? Yeah, flying cars is a nope.

If we weren't so addicted to oil we probably could've been flying twenty years ago.

☹️

I hope electric solar would be the main sources?

FAKE NEWS Reporting on the Jetsons imo lol

Unless the stupid government is hiding something we have not yet developed Anti-Gravity.

There’s no need to imitate the Jetsons or to wait for 2030. People now a days don’t drive they “ZOOM” like if there’s no tomorrow.

This idea has been going on for years, I think since the 50's or 60's which at that time the prediction was be in the 90's there be flying cars.

Your 'experts' have no clue that they are talking about in this decade.

Self driving cars! Battery cars will start to usurp ICE cars. So excited.

🚗🚘🚗🚘

Aw shucks!

Cars which have the capacity to fly as we have some now it will be very common?

This future is a rip off. 😂

You never know they will next billion years

Not much different than it is now

Buying a Spaceship.

Must be some REAL DUMB experts. Stanford grads, I bet.

Not George and Jane guys 🤦‍♀️

Not during the Trump administration...

It surprising we don't charge batteries using spinning tires to turn dynamos. We can combine this with turbines turned by wind and solar panels. Why not to use this way to charge batteries, propel, heat and power headlights- so we aren't dependent on electric charging stations.

But we were promised jetpacks

We already know that we all have lobby floor suspended in the 15 floor we flying

Funny you promote the fantasy that is Uber flying taxis everytime they have bad news to share.

50/50 at best we have fully autonomous cars by 2030.

Less crime as well.

And dead terrorist leaders will still be austere religious scholars.

More like 'Soylent Green' than the Jetsons. Flying cars my ass.

“Experts” meaning folks who WANT these industries to flourish. They may, they may not. We should hope they do, but this is like labeling oil industry insiders “experts” on fossil fuel emissions

I won't get in then.

“Charging station? Down by the docks. Enjoy the scenery!”

At least one not need fear being assaulted by an autonomous vehicle.

Just like they predicted flying cars in 2010 right?

I’m in! Yes! 💜😊

I am still waiting for my flying Car I was promised by 2000

Looks dumb as hell, so yeah it’s pretty great and I’m looking forward to it.

Yeah sure, same old crap, you still have to drive it lmao

As long as the future of driving looks like the brainchild of elonmusk I’ll be happy.

I'll be 82 by then and still on the road. Be afraid, very afraid.

No thanks
