The strike is over a proposed expansion of a “two-tier” system that would essentially create a new class of workers with lower pay and benefits.
“Why would any worker in the future want to be a part of a union that sold them out and allows them to work the rest of their lives with no insurance and no benefits once they retire?” Kevin Bradshaw, who’s worked at Kellogg’s Memphis plant for 20 years and is vice president of his local affiliate of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers, and Grain Millers’ Union, told Jacobin’s Alex Press.
