The Columbus Education Association and the Columbus City Schools Board of Education finished the final scheduled negotiating session with no agreement, according to the union.formal notice to the State Employment Relations BoardIf no agreement is reached before then, CEA will meet Sunday at 6:30 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center to vote on whether to officially initiate a strike.
The board reported that its"final offer" at the time of the complaint was a 3% increase at each step of the salary for 2022-23 and a $2,000 retention bonus to be paid out over the next two years, according to the complaint. A 3% raise would increase the pay range to $37,434 to $110,909 and an 8% raise would increase the pay range to $39,251 to $116,293.
If the union were to vote to strike and remain on the picket line Wednesday, the state’s largest district with more than 47,000 students plans to start the school year remotely — which has drawn criticism from Columbus City Schools parents concerned that many students did not do well working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
