shannonrwatts So powerful. I hope these kids and the community find peace.

Schools are trauma zones because the kids are traumatized by poverty all over the country. I am no where near LA and we have 70% poverty rate.

Violence in and around schools in LAUSD is definitely a big issue. But not as big as the fact that most schools have 10% of kids passing grade level competency exams. The schools are broken, dirty, and awash in political bureaucracy.

LA is beginning to look like Chicago

This problem is only one symptom of California's liberal policies. 'Common Sense' gun control is not going to fix it. California has created a culture that is completely devoid of personal accountability. I don't know how to turn that around

also are you counting murder by police in these stats?

how many people killed near LA schools are death by car?

Hey MayorOfLA - do your job and fix this mess.

How do you safely get to a school surrounded by homicide? Follow three students' paths:

Has anyone ever considered that you have to change the behavior? It starts with a belief system: Live by God's Rules, Honor yourself and family, Be a good neighbor and mentor, Have compassion for those less fortunate but hold ourselves accountable! Just my thoughts!

I wonder have they ever tried bringing in more money to improve the schools give good wages to the teachers and be more in touch with the community!? Hahaha...nah that's crazy talk lets continue with more police tougher school policies and watch it resolve itself!?

so, o have the solution: ban all weapons!

Advertisers Are Paying Higher Oscars Ad Rates Even As The Audience ShrinksOscar advertisers were willing to take a risk on the broadcast, spending $2.6 million for a 30-second spot, even though its audience has declined in recent years 2.6 million... All those wasted millions on Oscars commercials that most people won’t even see or pay attention to that could have went to CEOs. Imagine... just for a moment the Hollywood put its money where its mouth is, and instead of wasting that 2.6 million on each 30-sec spot, the money was put towards ending homelessness in LA or preventing hunger in our school systems.

Walmart UK buyout would stretch even KKRThe private equity group might bid for the U.S. giant’s Asda unit if a 7.3 bln pound sale to rival Sainsbury’s is blocked. To get a decent return, KKR would have to crank up sales and margins – and write a big equity cheque. It’s not impossible but UK retail woes make it unlikely.
