The West York School Board voted on Tuesday night to move forward with a $20 million project to improve and upgrade athletic fields. The vote followed a public comment period at the meeting where many residents spoke out against the project. Speakers raised concerns about money being spent by the district on sports rather than academics and the safety of turf fields. 'I along with other taxpayers, would like the West York School Board to take pause on the athletic project.

For many of us, we feel there were too many unanswered questions,' one resident said. 'I hear from many that our focus should solely be on academic achievement rather than investing in athletics. While academics are paramount to high school, you have to look at the benefits of a well-rounded education.
