The Austin Police Department is currently experiencing a shortage of officers, according to Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock . That fact hasn’t stopped officers from assisting other law enforcement officers at the University of Texas at Austin this week. The Austin Police Department is currently experiencing a shortage of officers, according to Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock .

“It’s a bit of flashback to things we’ve previously dealt with here about four years ago,” said Bullock. “Our department is significantly smaller than it was then, so any major event is a strain on our resources.” Bullock says in some cases, they’re pulling officers from their duties – some of which include handling 911 calls – to assist in protests. To replace those officers, others are being called in to fill those roles.
