During a special City Council session, SAWS provided an update on their 2024 water management strategies, which include proposals for penalizing customers who excessively use water. Under the new plan, customers who overuse water will face fines reflected on their bills. However, they will have a 21-day window to appeal the fines before the charges are applied. "We have a delayed period before we put it on the bill because people need an opportunity to respond," explained Karen Guz, Vice President of Water Conservation for SAWS. "Imagine someone gets a violation notice.

Additional changes in the proposal include updates to the drought and watering rules. These measures are designed to enhance water conservation efforts and ensure sustainable water usage throughout the summer and beyond. The City Council is scheduled to vote on the proposal on June 20th. If approved, the new regulations will be enforced starting in July.
