about the piece on both Instagram and Twitter. "So, I drew an alien character with a realistic body, wearing a more everyday version of the Wonder Woman outfit." DC, the entertainment company behind Wonder Woman, decided to use the illustration for a variant cover and tweeted it out to DC Nation Twitter account — which is when Eisenberg learned that some fans' devotion is less like loyalty and more like narrowminded fat-shaming.
"I didn't realize that featuring a Wonder Woman-inspired character with a realistic body type would be controversial. Apparently it is! 😂💕," Eisenberg wrote, adding that once the variant cover was tweeted, "it was immediately met with hundreds of comments hating on her body .
Thankfully, a number of fans were ready and willing to call out the absolute bullshit that is being offended by the concept of Wonder Woman that differs from the traditionally leaner versions of the characters."Watching all the people here complain about a character who has realistic proportions is very telling. All the cries of 'fat!' and 'whale!' make it clear that misogynistic attitudes remain rife," one person tweeted.
Here's why she can't be fat or male: in the comics, the Amazons were warrior women who trained constantly for battle and knew one day it would come (it did). Hiring non comic writers/artists is an insult to those of us who give them our $ every month. I still read comics, FU.
It's not about fat shaming, at least 4me it isn't. That being said it's about promoting being unhealthy (seems to be a trend as of late) & that in my humble opinion is downright wrong. Furthermore when it comes to WW, how does an out of shape WW fight crime? Simply Amazing? SMDH!
How ironic that a magazine based on beauty & attractiveness, is promoting obesity as a goal....From a fictional character. I'm sure every mom and dad wants their little girl to aspire to be 50 lbs overweight & diabetic. While we're at it, let's give Superman a 'dad-bod'. Gross!
Not fat shaming, just fact checking. Amazons aren't plus-size, they weren't back in BC, they aren't today. Why can't Hercules be plus-size, because that's not Hercules, the same goes for Amazon women, they aren't plus-size, they are warriors that train several hours daily.
