rings and a doctor picks up. “Sir, we’ve run out of ventilators. What do we do when more patients come?” Soon after, a grim medic explains that the disease they are battling kills three in four victims. There is no vaccine or treatment.
Kerala has used the same simple, cheap tools to fight covid-19, with similarly stellar results. It was the first of India’s 36 states and territories to report a covid-19 case, a medical student who returned in January from Wuhan, the Chinese city where the epidemic started. By March 24th, when Narendra Modi, the prime minister, declared a nationwide lockdown to combat the disease, Kerala accounted for a fifth of India’s cases, more than any other state. Just six weeks later, it ranks 16th.
Some suggest that having relatively young populations may have lessened the toll of the disease in both places. Others speculate that universal inoculation with, a vaccine against tuberculosis and leprosy, has made locals less susceptible. Todd Pollack, a specialist in infectious diseases based in Vietnam, says the reasons for its success are simpler: “Countries that took early, aggressive action, using proven methods, have severely limited the virus.
Before the end of January Vietnam had declared a national emergency, formed a top-level steering committee chaired by the deputy prime minister and begun screening passengers and restricting movement. The effort to trace the contacts of infected travellers drew on personnel from the army and civil service as well as health workers. At one large hospital in Hanoi, the capital, investigators tracked and tested some 5,000 people.
Neither has Madagascar
Maybe they are honest and refuse to falsely inflate the numbers.
Interestingly, Kerala is a Marxist state that has multiple political parties and free elections.
Don’t believe it for one second. Before you report something like this you need to travel there... garbage reporting
Who is president? We need your help!!

Don't jinx them. 🙄
They must have Fox News pundits running their public health policy organizations.
The Kerala way : Use of geofencing , drones , telemed app to tackle Covid -19.
do you think the information given is correct
Kerala....❤️
Vietnam's measures to tackle the coronavirus were tough but the people accepted them and co-operated with the authorities.
So they say! I can't trust a word from any administration after a Trump administration.
of course
Neither has a North Korea
Wow, that agent orange might something to do with it
Ummm, como raro
It wasn't cheap at all! You can't put a price tag on the efforts they taken for contact tracing & isolating which prevent the outbreak. The success of Kerala is largely due the contract tracing infrastructure was put in place after the Nipah virus outbreak in 2018 and it worked
Proud about my kerala
❤✌
Counting currency but not deaths.
I don't trust the reports of commie countries.
It doesn't cost a lot. Just wear a mask when you are staying outside with a lot of people around you, or just stay at home. With the help of the Internet, it is surely easy to follow the steps your companies have told you about how to deal with things through the Internet.
Money isn't everything. Administration is. Kerala Vietnam model.
I'm proud of my country
Kerala still holds highest literacy rates! So, yes hopes are also higher!
Good work, congratulations
You choose your words carefully.
Yet Americans blame Vietnam for infected cases on the aircraft carrier, I think VIETNAM is innocent!
KeiserReport zero deaths next door in Cambodia too
KeiserReport What a coincidence that The Economist praises and puts the communist and totalitarian countries on a pedestal!!
Most East Asian countries have better work in handling COVID19.
👍👍= Very Good News 😄
Advaidism If you want to read the full news you have to pay the money, the economist is real utter capitalist.
Too bad that Taiwan doesn't get mentioned often due to political pressure from China.. they did an amazing job as well.
Some of the replies are so funny, we had this amazing result bc our government worked really hard from the very first point to prevent the pandemic. Really proud of my country
Of Course, neither does North Korea,Laos, Cuba and China only a few... Communism is the way to go roght?... The Economist keeps spreading communist Propaganda, time to find out who is paying them, let me guess... China?...shameful!
Kerala exported COVID19 to neighboring Karnataka which has less incidence proportionate to population.
Perhaps we should drop napalm and Agent Orange on the US population? Birth defects and cheap (but high quality) suits/sports coats will also be available!
Right...just like China only has ~85,000 cases and North Korea has zero. Seriously.....
If you believe what totalitarian governments report.
They already had them all? Movie Flu, as I shared it in my profile.
KeiserReport Could it be because Vietnam don’t fuck with the deep state?
Choi hoy
They have been working really hard to mitigate the pandemic, but zero deaths sounds quite suspicious...
No 5G towers 🙄
Anyone who believes this is
Although the virus spread from Vietnam to the USS Roosevelt, resulting in one sailor's death.
Is it even statistically possible?
I bet they locked down tighter than a drum, right?
They don't do data fraud.
Agent still active?
A country w/o a free press...
Lol yah ok
How much of this has been verified? It sure reads like paid advertising🤔
In before we couldn’t do that here we are different
Kerala's investments mostly based on public health care and infrastructure.once again it proves that we do not need weapons we need doctors and hospitals.
'Vietnam and Kerala both benefit from a long legacy of investment in public health and particularly in primary care, with strong, centralised management, an institutional reach from city wards to remote villages and an abundance of skilled personnel.' - Yay communism!
I've been in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Mumbai. Kerala is a Humanity Spot in a very complicated Country. Kerala has been ruled by the Communist Party for 50 years. The cpimspeak CPIMKerala ♥️. One of the few Indian States to have Public Services.
