by Michael AdkisonAfter two chaotic protests, resulting in the arrests of more than a hundred individuals, the University of Texas at Austin have pinned much of their criticism on the fact that more than half of those arrested are allegedly not affiliated with the university. Organizers at protests this week have pushed back on those claims.
CBS Austin requested UT if it would be possible to share records pointing to the university status of those arrested but were told those records are protected by federal privacy laws. The UT student directory, too, is blocked without access to a university login by current or future university faculty, staff, or students.
On Monday, Henry Kohen, an activist who identified himself as affiliated with the encampment set up on campus property, prompting arrests en masse, noted that he was not a student in an interview with CBS Austin.
